Thomas Pringle TD

Physiotherapy Department in Killybegs Community Hospital

Deputy Thomas Pringle  speak’s out” It was brought to my attention recently that although the physiotherapy department has been short staffed for a number of years, recently one of the physiotherapists has been asked to work shorter days in Killybegs and is covering hours in Ballyshannon.

This means that Killybegs is again being put on the back burner regarding all services just to facilitate shortages in staff in other locations. There is a large waiting list for physiotherapy in Killybegs and it is unfair that Killybegs Community Hospital should carry this burden.

It was to my  understanding that there is an embargo in place and HSE are unable to employ much needed staff  in different departments but as I am also aware physiotherapists where not included in the recruitment embargo therefore there should not be such a shortage of physiotherapists to carry out their duties.
I have asked HSE West to inform me how the HSE are going to resolve the large waiting list for physiotherapy in Killybegs since the HSE cut the physiotherapist working hours.

Deputy Pringle states that from talking to a few of my constituents, I believe that the waiting list in the Physiotherapy Department in Killybegs Community Hospital  is now approximately seven to eight months for someone to be seen by the physiotherapist.
