PRINGLE WELCOMES FUNDING FOR DIABETES NURSE AT LETTERKENNY
- Updated: 23rd May 2013
Thomas Pringle TD has today welcomed the approved funding for the appointment of an Integrated Care Diabetes Nurse Specialist at Letterkenny General Hospital (LGH).
“This funding, which is to provide 17 nurses in total – one in each HSE Integrated Service Area – is to support the phased roll out of the National Integrated Care Diabetes Programme which will improve patient access and manage patient care in a more integrated manner across service settings, which should result in better outcomes.
“The Diabetes Nurse Specialist will work 1 day a week in LGH and 4 days a week in primary care, where they will be an essential resource in empowering patients to achieve optimum diabetes control.
“But there is also an urgent need to have the paediatric diabetes care posts filled to allow for the insulin pump service to be available for over 130 diabetic children attending LGH.
“In the meantime, recruitment for the 17 Integrated Care Diabetes Nurse Specialists is underway, and hopefully the posts will be filled without delay so as to provide patients with this specialist care as soon as possible,” stated Pringle.
