PRINGLE LAUNCHES BUDGET PROPOSAL WITH INDEPENDENTS

Thomas Pringle TD has today launched a pre-budget proposal ‘Principles for a Fair and Progressive Approach’ with five other independent TDs ahead of next week’s Budget 2014.

“Myself, Catherine Murphy, John Halligan, Patrick Nulty and Tommy Broughan have come together as public representatives to endorse three principles for a fair and progressive budget. Irish politics, and more importantly, Irish people need practical alternatives to the path the current government has been taking and we have sought to provide that alternative.

“This budget proposal is based on fair taxation, preserving primary spending and addressing the investment crisis by targeting the critical sectors of education, communications and energy and water infrastructure. I believe the introduction of a wealth tax, a four year jobs stimulus programme and no cuts in public spending would go some way in putting Ireland back on the road to recovery. All of this comes to a saving of €2 billion.

“Minister Noonan stated in reply to a recent parliamentary question that to make no budget adjustments in 2014 would reduce the General Government Deficit to 5.8%-we only need a budget that will achieve a deficit reduction of 0.7% to meet the Troika targets and ensure our exit from the bailout programme. I believe this shows that we need to declare an end to austerity and allow citizens the respite and confidence to participate in our economy and society,” stated Pringle.
