PRINGLE WELCOMES APPOINTMENT PROCESS FOR PAEDIATRIC DIABETES NURSE

Thomas Pringle TD has today welcomed the announcement that the appointment process has started to recruit a clinical paediatric diabetes nurse at Letterkenny General Hospital following a meeting this afternoon between parents and Minister Reilly.

“I am delighted by this announcement today and would like to congratulate the Donegal Diabetes Parent Support Group for all their hard work which has led to this result.

“Earlier this afternoon I met with affected parents who had travelled to Dublin to hand in the petition that so many people in Donegal signed to provide this dedicated paediatric diabetes clinical nurse specialist, before they met with Minister Reilly to discuss this announcement. This follows a productive debate I had with the Minister last week in the Dáil at Topical Issues where myself and other Donegal TDs highlighted the need for this nurse to facilitate the healthcare needs of around 143 children in the county.

“I eagerly await the recruitment of this specialist nurse, which is the first big step towards providing a centre of excellence for diabetes in LGH that we so badly need in the North West,” stated Pringle.
