“I am delighted to get confirmation today from Donegal Council that 100% funding has been secured to complete the following walks in the area:

  • Scree Lane – past Drumboe Avenue
  • Creggan Forest Walk
  • Holy Well Wood- beside Creggan Forest
  • Drumboe Woods – to link to Drumboe Road
  • Killygordon and Drumore Bridge – walkway down to the river
  • The Steeple – beside Kilross
  • Waterlane Stranorlar (approx 200 metres towards the Railway tracks with hopes of funding secured in the future to extend the trail around the tracks)

“The Council are under pressure to use available funding by the end of 2017 so works have already started on three of these walks.”“This funding will go a long way to promoting healthy living through the enjoyment of our natural heritage which is so rich in Donegal. Constructing and maintaining trails is vital to encouraging healthy outdoor activity and I hope that funding will continue to be provided for the upkeep and ongoing maintenance of trails across the County. “I also believe this will be great for tourism and for the promotion of all parts of Donegal. There has not been the same efforts to promote areas outside the Wild Atlantic Way which is not fair given that there are as many beautiful places in East Donegal. Today will be a great development for its promotion and I look forward to seeing more done for this area. “I hope to see funding initiatives extended to other projects including a Greenway as I have called for in the past. There is so much potential out there for investing in our natural heritage and opening it up for locals and tourists” concludes Pringle. ENDS
